May 27 - Divorcing Disney After talks of renewing Duff's contract, Disney announces that it has split with the rising star due to differences over the direction of her career. - Duff Gets BuffDespite a thinner appearance, Duff denies reports that she has developed an eating disorder, attributing the loss to a low-carb diet and exercise. "My best friend was on tour with me, and we swam 30 laps every day," Duff tells Cosmopolitan. "My sister [introduced] me to Pilates, and I just got obsessed with it. I do it three or four times a week when I'm not traveling." August
18 - Mini-Mogul Duff expands her roles in Hollywood by becoming a producer on the film Material Girls. The big-screen comedy features Duff playing a sister alongside her real-life sister Haylie. October 12 - Stalkers Stopped Duff files for restraining orders against an 18-year-old immigrant identified as Max and his roommate David Joseph Klein, 50. Duff claims that Max "threatened to kill himself" to get her attention. She also alleges that he threatened to "remove enemies" who stand in his way, including Duff's boyfriend Madden. Max, later identified as Maksim Myaskovskiy, will be sentenced to 117 days in prison. November
